I haven’t known any women who have wanted to get an abortion. I’ve only known women who have felt they had to make a tough choice and they made it. To assume the worst about these women and other women who have made what may be one of the hardest decisions of their lives, to disallow or make inaccessible their right to choose, is to ignore the ills and oppression in our society that cause unwanted pregnancies to happen in the first place. This ignorance is how we get to wire hangers and self-induced abortions which are anything but “pro-life”. We have to stop vilifying women and think bigger to a world that has BOTH choice and life, knowing that choice is required. We are far from where we need to be with a lot more work to do if our goal is shared humanity and social equity.
