“What does real community safety look like? Can we get there without relying on the police, especially when we know that for communities of color, immigrants, youth, LGBTQ folks, homeless folks and so many others: police = danger?”

– event description

I am looking forward to supporting this space and event next Thursday as we need to explore finding alternatives to policing and incarceration. Politically I believe we can start by holding police accountable with an elected Civilian Complaint Review Board that is given firing and suspension power (the “H” in my Kristin for H.A.R.L.E.M. platform which stands for “Holding police accountable & abolition”). On a larger scale we will need deeper conversations like this about community safety. #wekeepussafe #nonewjails #kristinforharlem
